Chad J. Huck – Biography

Chad “C.J.” Huck is a Navy veteran and attorney serving clients throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, California. Born and raised in the small ranching town of Coldwater, Kansas, he grew up working cattle and raising American Quarter Horses, a tradition he proudly continues today alongside his father. An avid horseman, C.J. competed in rodeo events and later went on to play college football, experiences that shaped his discipline and perseverance.

In 2001, C.J. enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for 14 years and completed three combat deployments to Iraq with a maritime interdiction operations unit. He was honorably and medically retired from service, during which time he earned an Associate’s Degree from Coastline Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma. Following retirement, he worked as a government contractor in Port Hueneme before pursuing his long-standing interest in law. He went on to enroll in the Juris Doctor program at the Colleges of Law in Santa Barbara.

C.J. gained practical experience interning with the North County Public Defender’s Office, where he primarily assisted in Veterans Treatment Court and Mental Health Treatment Court, while also managing his own misdemeanor caseload. Outside of his legal work, he has also spent time as a college baseball umpire, further reflecting his lifelong dedication to discipline and fairness.

Today, C.J. continues his commitment to service beyond the courtroom. He serves as an officer and general counsel for a nonprofit that pairs veterans with horses and as counsel to a national nonprofit supporting veterans through baseball umpiring. His work reflects a genuine passion for helping individuals struggling with mental health challenges and supporting fellow veterans with invisible wounds of service.
